Arctic Safari

Our most ambitious adventure to date, the new Arctic Safari is a wildlife encounter second to none, with endless photo opportunities and experiences. On this expedition you will be exploring vast areas of Canada's last remaining wilderness, from the Arctic "Serengeti" the great tundra plains known as The Barren Lands, through "The Land of Little Sticks" and finally down to the rugged Hudson Bay coastline, home of the Great White Bears.
.

Features

Your travels will take you over 20,000 square kilometers of the wildest regions in the Arctic, home to wolves, caribou, moose, three species of bears (polar, black & grizzly), Arctic & colored fox, wolverine, beaver, pine marten and countless bird life all set on a kaleidoscope of spectacular fall colors.

If that’s not enough try finding some energy to stay up for the finest light show on earth -- we live in the best Aurora Borealis viewing zone in the Arctic.

Best of all there are no frozen fingers or seized camera gear to deal with, which is typical if you’re visiting during the traditional winter months. Listening to the spine tingling thrill of a howling wolf pack, while being mesmerized by the dancing Aurora Borealis, is life changing.

This wildlife adventure will touch you like no other experience can. Of course it can't hurt that you have just finished a delicious meal at our luxury Seal River Heritage Lodge and you're lounging outside by a camp fire sipping a glass of fine wine and watching the Northern Lights!

From our rugged cozy Caribou camp on Schmok Lake to the Arctic luxury of Seal River Heritage Lodge we will pamper you with the finest service, guides, accommodations, and cuisine found north of the Canadian tree line -- truly the adventure vacation of a lifetime.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Winnipeg to Churchill

Arrive in Winnipeg before your 2:30 p.m. Calm Air flight to Churchill, Manitoba.  Your Churchill Wild expeditor will meet you at the Churchill airport upon your arrival.  You will be spending the night in this frontier town located on the shores of the Hudson Bay. You will have time to take in the town sites, shops, restaurants, historical points of interest, and hopefully snap a few shots as you prepare to fly out the next morning to Seal River Heritage Lodge on the Hudson Bay coast.

Day 2 – Off to Seal River Heritage Lodge

This is it, the point of no return; you will leave Churchill this morning on the great Canadian bush plane, the de Havilland Beaver.  It will wing you north-west to the finest Arctic Eco Lodge on the planet, our Seal River polar bear viewing lodge.  There will be endless visuals en-route, so keep those eyes open for polar bears, caribou and other wildlife.  Arrive at the Lodge, meet your hosts, check into your private room and prep that camera gear.  Your guide will provide you with a brief orientation and then it’s time to get out on the land!

Day 3 TO 7 – Tundra Trekking, Hudson Bay Coastline, Tidal Flats, Arctic Ocean

In the coming days you will enjoy the true wildness of this adventure.  Breakfast will be served at 8:00 a.m. and lunches are typically held at the Lodge. Dinner is served at 7:00 p.m.  Meals may be delayed in favor of wildlife viewing and photographic opportunities!  This adventure targets polar bears, possible grizzly and black bears, caribou, wolves, Arctic fox, a beluga whale migratory fly-over, migratory birdlife (millions!), and much more in a backdrop of spectacular fall colors.  Your experienced guide is professional and knowledgeable about the land and the wildlife so be prepared to do some learning.  A charter aircraft will be used to take you out for a day trip to encounter the migrating masses of Canadian Central Barren Ground caribou which number in the hundreds of thousands in our area.

Day 8 – Say Goodbye to the Lodge

Pack your bags for your trip to reality.  You will enjoy a hearty breakfast before your trip south today.  You will fly from the Lodge to Churchill (free afternoon) and you will continue on to Winnipeg this evening.  Upon arrival in Winnipeg you will check into the Four Points Sheraton conveniently located at the Winnipeg airport.

Day 9 – Back to Reality

Today you will travel home.  Safe travels! We hope to see you on another one of our exciting adventures!
