A set of stirring videos portraying the emotional and physical experience of walking with polar bears at three remote polar bear lodges owned by Churchill Wild has won the 2016 Signature Award for Broadcast/Non-Broadcast (Made in Manitoba), presented to the best locally produced broadcast or non-broadcast commercial or video.

Produced by Build Films of Winnipeg, the winning videos featured footage from Churchill Wild’s polar bear walking safaris including their Hudson Bay Odyssey at Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge, their Birds, Bears and Belugas adventure and Polar Bear Photo Safari at Seal River Heritage Lodge, and their Great Ice Bear Adventure at Dymond Lake Ecolodge. Both Seal River Heritage Lodge and Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge are members of National Geographic Unique Lodges of the World.

“It’s always nice to win,” said Build Films Creative Director Trevor Gill. “But it was especially nice to win doing something that we love to do. Being up in Churchill with the polar bears and the people at Churchill Wild was incredible. They’re very good clients and friends and it was nice to win for them too.

“The experience was definitely first class, even for us while we were working up there. We learned a ton from the Churchill Wild guides and owners Mike and Jeanne Reimer, and that knowledge will definitely be helpful to us in our future film projects in the Arctic. Being around bears, the intricacies of working in the north, we’ve already applied some of the knowledge to other projects we’re working on in the north.”

Held at the RBC Convention Centre in Winnipeg on May 18, 2017, the Signature Awards are an annual celebration of the creative talent in Manitoba. Founded in 1988 by the Advertising Association of Winnipeg, the premier event showcases the best advertising, marketing and design produced in Manitoba the previous year. Judged by an international panel of industry peers, the awards recognize the best in the industry and honour them during a gala banquet every May.

Build Films was founded in 2013 by  Christopher Paetkau, Trevor Gill and Carlyle Paetkau.
